Why do the ads for your favorite foods always look so much better than the real thing?

As explained by a promotional video from McDonald’s they do use all of the same ingredients from their restaurant, they just give it a little more attention. -

First they sear it all around. -

Then they pick their favorite pickles and buns and examine them for visual defects. -

They place the toppings towards the front so they appear on camera, where as in the restaurant they would distribute them evenly. -

They melt the edges of the cheese with a hair dryer to make the edges appear solid but melted. -

They carefully add the condiments. -

Take their snaps of the lopsided burger. -

The take it into photoshop to round out some edges and lighten some dark spots. -

And voila! One hamburger ready for print.
